Method

Ratio of the month's exported FOB value to the volume exported in the same month, expressed in dollars per kilogram: volume is published in tonnes, so the denominator is converted to kilograms before dividing. The result is rounded to 6 decimal places, which is the precision at which the laboratory stores a figure. It is an implicit price and not an observed one: no agency publishes the price at which each consignment was sold, and what this figure measures is the ratio between the month's aggregate value and volume. The cell's status is not declared: it comes from its inputs through the propagation order, so a month in which the value or the volume is provisional publishes a provisional price.

Confidentiality

No threshold barrier, because the export universe protects no population. The reason is set out in the universe declaration and in ADR 0035: the population of exporting firms exists, but the source neither identifies nor counts it, so the cell cannot be evaluated, and the number of contributors is not taken from another source because that would mean inventing it. The published cell is the one the agency already publishes at the same breakdown.

Limitations

An implicit price mixes headings, qualities and destinations in a single figure, so a change between months may come from a change in composition rather than in price. A month with zero volume publishes no cell, because the ratio does not exist.

Revision policy

The series is recalculated when the agency publishes a new edition of the year's resource. The most recent month in each capture is provisional at source, so its cell is published as provisional and is replaced by its final value in the next capture.
